MDP Worldwide Prepares Production Slate for 2003 - Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci to star in "Monster"

Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci have been signed to star in the drama "Monster" it was announced by Mark Damon, Chairman and CEO of MDP Worldwide Entertainment. The announcement marks the beginning of the 2003 production slate for MDP Worldwide, who plan to produce 8-10 films annually.

"Monster" is currently in pre-production and will begin shooting on February 4th in Florida. Patty Jenkins will direct the film based on her original screenplay and Charlize Theron, Mark Damon, Brad Wyman and Donald Kushner will serve as producers. Theron ("Sweet November", "Cider House Rules", "Devil's Advocate") will play the role of renowned serial killer Aileen Wournos, a prostitute turned serial killer whose love for her innocent girlfriend played by Christina Ricci ("Legend of Sleepy Hollow", "The Opposite of Sex"), makes her determined to get control over her life. As the police net tightens and the pressure mounts, her lover must make a heartbreaking decision that finally ends the personal -as well as public-journey of fear and murder.

Also in pre-production is the feature film "Higher." The story centers on a young American couple that, though passionately in love, seduce and blackmail wealthy couples in order to support their lavish lifestyle. They soon find themselves entangled in a deadly game of sex and power when they choose the wrong couple to fleece. The screenplay was written by Karl Gajdusek and the film will be produced by Brad Gilbert and Faye Schwab with Mark Damon, Sammy Lee and Stewart Hall serving as Executive Producers.

"The script has a cat and mouse feel reminiscent of some of the best works of Patricia Highsmith", stated Damon. "We intend to make a very atmospheric thriller that challenges the lives of the four people whose game escalates to the highest stakes."

Other titles on the MDP production and distribution slate include the psychological thriller "The I Inside" will be theatrically released in North America by Miramax Films in late 2003. Directed by Roland Suso Richter and based on Michael Cooney's screenplay, the film stars Ryan Phillippe ("Cruel Intentions", "Igby Goes Down"), Sarah Polley ("The Sweet Hereafter", "Go"), Piper Perabo ("Coyote Ugly"), Stephen Rea ("The Crying Game", "The End of the Affair") and Robert Sean Leonard ("Dead Poets Society"); "The United States of Leland", a poignant emotional drama that will premiere in competition at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival. Produced by Kevin Spacey, Bernie Morris, Jonah Smith & Palmer West, the film features an all star cast including Ryan Gosling (Murder by Numbers, Remember the Titans), Don Cheadle (Traffic, Swordfish), Chris Klein (American Pie 2, Rollerball), Lena Olin (Chocolat, The Unbearable Lightness of Being), Jena Malone (Life as a House, Donnie Darko), and Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey (American Beauty, The Shipping News).

Additionally, MDP is also producing and distributing the drama 11:14, currently in post production, which features an ensemble cast including Academy Award winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry, Insomnia), Rachel Leigh Cook (AntiTrust, Josie and the Pussycats), Barbara Hershey (Lantana, The Last Temptation of Christ), Patrick Swayze (Ghost, Dirty Dancing), Colin Hanks (Orange County, Band of Brothers) and Henry Thomas (All the Pretty Horses, E.T.).
