MDP Worldwide Withdraws from "Beyond the Sea"

MDP Worldwide and Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Productions jointly announced today that MDP will be withdrawing from the feature film "Beyond The Sea". The withdrawal is due to Spacey's need to complete the film with the availability of the cast and production personnel by the end of 2003,which conflicted with MDP's current production schedule. MDP has agreed to withdraw from the project in order to allow Spacey to shoot the film starting October 6th with new financial backer VisionView and US distribution to be handled by Lions Gate.

Mark Damon, Chairman and CEO of MDP Worldwide stated, "We regret that this scheduling conflict has caused us to withdraw our involvement in "Beyond the Sea." But we are as devoted as Kevin to getting the picture made, and if that means we have to step aside, then we will." Spacey commented, "I am enormously grateful to MDP's faith in getting the film this far. I am very pleased that the film is going forward on schedule and will continue to be thankful to MDP for making a decision that is clearly in the best interest of the film."

Based on the life of legendary singer Bobby Darin, the film will be directed by two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey who will also star as Darin, Kate Bosworth as Sandra Dee with Phil Ramone as music producer. Spacey, Andy Patterson and Arthur E. Friedman will produce the film with MDP's Mark Damon and Joanne Horowitz serving as Executive Producers.

MDP Worldwide is currently in pre-production on "The Upside of Anger" which will be directed by Mike Binder and will star Joan Allen, Kevin Costner, Erika Christenson, Alicia Witt, Keri Russell and Evan Rachel Wood. Principal photography is scheduled to commence August 26th in the U.K.; "Havoc" which will be directed by two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple will begin principal photography by mid-September in Los Angeles.
