M8’S “LOVEWRECKED” COMPLETES PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY

8/30/2004

M8 Entertainment Inc. (TSX: MEE.A and MEE.B), a leading Canadian film entertainment company, announced today that principal photography has been completed on its feature film Lovewrecked. The teen comedy project stars Amanda Bynes (What a Girl Wants), Chris Carmack (Fox TV’s “The O.C.”), Jamie-Lynn DiScala (HBO’s “The Sopranos”), and Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls). Lovewrecked is directed by veteran comedy director Randal Kleiser (director of Grease and Honey I Blew Up the Kid), from a script by Stephen Langford. M8 Entertainment’s Sammy Lee and Stewart Hall are serving as producers on the film, along with Bacon & Eggs’ Joe Anderson and Wendy Thorlakson.

“It’s been a tremendously exciting and rewarding process to see Lovewrecked come to life,” said M8’s Stewart Hall. “Everything fell perfectly into place, as we were able to assemble a very talented cast of up-and-coming young stars, along with a top notch director like Randal. We are really looking forward to seeing the finished film, as it should be every bit as funny and charming as we had hoped,” further added Hall.

In Lovewrecked, Ms. Bynes plays Jenny, an eighteen year-old girl who is ecstatic when she finds herself seemingly shipwrecked with her favorite rock star, Jason. However, in reality they are just a stone’s throw from the luxury tropical resort where Jenny is working for the summer, but Jenny keeps this a secret from Jason in order to try to win his affections.

The film was shot entirely on location in the Dominican Republic, with most of the scenes being shot at the Sun Village Beach Resort in Puerto Plato. The resort, a luxury vacation resort owned by EMI, worked closely with the producers to provide them with support and assistance while filming. ”The Sun Village Beach Resort was the perfect place to film, as it offered an amazing backdrop,” said executive producer Matt Leonetti. “Without the help and support of the owners and management, we wouldn’t have been able to shoot such a quality motion picture,” further added Leonetti.

Following the success of its Academy Award winning film Monster, M8 Entertainment is actively gearing up production in its strategy of producing, financing and distributing six films a year. Production is nearing completion on M8’s Running Scared, a big budget action/drama starring Paul Walker, which is writer-director Wayne Kramer’s follow up to his critically acclaimed film The Cooler.

M8 Entertainment’s future slate of upcoming releases includes the Mike Binder-directed The Upside of Anger, a bittersweet comedy slated to be released in the US in December through New Line Cinema, and stars three-time Academy Award nominee Joan Allen, two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, Erika Christensen, Evan Rachel Wood, Keri Russell, and Alicia Witt. Also upcoming is Santa’s Slay, an action infused horror-comedy that casts everyone’s favorite holiday figure, Santa, in an entirely new and sinister light. M8 Entertainment is co-producing Santa’s Slay with Brett Ratner (director of mega-box office hits Rush Hour, Rush Hour 2, and Red Dragon), and the film features WWE wrestling star Goldberg as the devilish Santa Claus, alongside up-and-coming young stars Douglas Smith (State’s Evidence, Sleepover) and Emilie de Ravin (“Roswell”). Also forthcoming is Havoc, Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan’s (Traffic) searing music-driven story of teen culture as it clashes with the real world of urban Latino gangsters, directed by two-time Oscar winner Barbara Kopple, and starring Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries 2) and Bijou Phillips (Bully).
