ANNE HATHAWAY AND BIJOU PHILLIPS CAST IN Media 8 Entertainment’s “HAVOC”

Anne Hathaway and Bijou Phillips have been cast in Media 8’s (formerly MDP Worldwide) compelling youth drama “Havoc” which began production on September 30, 2003 in Los Angeles. The film is being directed by two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple and was written by Academy Award winner Stephen Gaghan (“Traffic”) based on the original screenplay by Jessica Kaplan. The film is a Media 8 and VIP Medienfonds production and is being produced by Jack F. Murphy (“Progeny”, “Ticks”), John Morrissey (“American History X”, “Kingdom Come”) and Stewart Hall (“Monster”, “11:14”). Mark Damon, Sammy Lee, Jane Berliner, Andreas Schmid and Andreas Grosch will serve as Executive Producers with Lars Bjorck co-producing. Also starring alongside Hathaway and Phillips are Laura San Giacomo (“Sex, Lies and Videotape,” “Pretty Woman”), Michael Biehn (“Terminator,” “Clockstoppers”), Mike Vogel (“Texas Chainsaw Massacre” remake, “Grind”), Joe Gordon Levitt (“10 Things I Hate About You”), and Matt O’Leary (“Spy Kids 3-D,” “The Alamo”).

“Havoc” is Gaghan’s searing vision of teen culture as it clashes with the real world of urban Latino gangstas. This music-driven tale follows two beautiful girls, Allison (Anne Hathaway) and Emily (Bijou Phillips) on their journey from the safety of their affluent suburban homes into the dangerous gangster world of East L.A., where they learn that even innocent actions can have the most grave and critical consequences.

Best known for her starring role in Disney’s box office hit “The Princess Diaries”, Anne Hathaway will next be seen in the musical drama “Ella Enchanted,” also starring Cary Elwes, and Minnie Driver and which will be released in early 2004 by Miramax Films. After completing “Havoc”, she will reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis in “The Princess Diaries 2”, which is currently in pre-production.

Bijou Phillips has starred in numerous films including Larry Clark’s “Bully”, James Toback’s “Black and White” and Cameron Crowe’s “Almost Famous”. She recently completed filming the feature film “Door In The Floor” which also stars Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger and is based on a John Irving novel.

Media 8’s current slate of feature films also includes the drama “The Upside of Anger,” written and directed by Mike Binder and starring three-time Academy Award nominee Joan Allen, two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, Erika Christensen, Evan Rachel Wood, Keri Russell, and Alicia Witt; the highly acclaimed drama “Monster,” written and directed by Patty Jenkins and starring Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci, which will have its theatrical release through Newmarket Films in December; the dark comedy “11:14,” which stars Academy Award-winner Hilary Swank, Rachael Leigh Cook, Barbara Hershey, and Patrick Swayze, and recently had its debut at the Toronto Film Festival, and will have its gala premiere as the Opening Night Film at the 2003 Hollywood Film Festival on October 15, and “The United States of Leland” starring two-time Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey, Ryan Gosling, and Don Cheadle.
